Should you fake it?Every year it's the same thing and even though I know it's coming, I am always unprepared. This year is no different. Here we are, just days away from Superbowl Sunday and I haven't brushed up on my football lingo. So that begs the question ? do I quickly Wikipedia it and Google every football term that I can possibly absorb into my brain in the next 4 days? Or do I go online and find a great link to faking it? The first option is morally superior and makes me an authentic person. It also allows me to ask questions during the game, giving my date the opportunity to showcase his expertise and impress me. Men love to solve problems and show off. This is a known fact. However, what will most likely happen is that I will be "shushed" and end up sulking on the couch will downing glass after glass of cabernet to numb the insult. The second option, while far less genuine, seems like a more likely option. I'm good at the 10 word sound bytes so this will give me a chance to shout out nonsense like ?Yeah, take off yer skirt and catch the damn ball!" which is easy. I'm simply riding on the tails of what the other guys are shouting and I sound like I know what I'm talking about. I don't need a guide with all sorts of complicated phrases and instructions. I won't remember them anyway. Now that I've "journaled' my dilemma, the choice is clear. This year, I'm going to fake it and I'm going to fake it MY way. But should you decide that you're not as quick on your toes, you might want to check out a few of the online guides to get you through. Globe & Mail Guide to bluffing your way through the Superbowl |
